Safe vertical access starts at the ladder

Every rooftop task begins with the climb. However, temporary ladders, improvised routes over parapets and worn fixed ladders are common on industrial sites. In addition, workers are most exposed at the transitions at the bottom and top of a climb. A permanent, engineered ladder is therefore the foundation of any roof safety plan, because the lifelines, walkways and barricades on the roof only help if people can reach them safely. Roof access points need protection from the moment a person starts to climb.

The TsaF Aluminium Cage Ladder System

The TsaF Aluminium Cage Ladder System gives safe and controlled vertical access to rooftops, platforms and elevated work areas. Its robust ladder and protective cage configuration also enhances user safety during ascent and descent. As a result, industrial and commercial sites get a secure and reliable route for working at height.

We design each ladder for its route: the climb height, the wall, tank or frame it fixes to, the landing at the top and the space around it. Because no two climbs are the same, we confirm dimensions and specifications for each project after the site survey.

What the system includes

  • Ladder structure and rungs in aluminium, sized for the climb.
  • Cage hoops and vertical straps that form the protective cage around the climber.
  • Ladder-to-structure mounting brackets for the wall, tank or frame the ladder fixes to.
  • Rest platforms and access points where the route requires them.
  • Entry and exit sections for a safe transition onto the roof or platform at the top.

Add continuous fall arrest

The cage encloses the climbing space. However, it is not a fall-arrest system on its own. For continuous protection on the climb, TsaF therefore recommends adding a vertical lifeline system in rope or rail type. It connects to cage ladders and keeps the climber attached to a guided fall arrester from bottom to top. At the roof exit, a rooftop barricade then protects the landing, and an aluminium walkway leads onward to the plant. For TsaF's own ladder system without a cage, see the Flowlok ladder system.

Why TsaF

We engineer cage ladders after a site survey and manufacture them at our Jewar facility. Our certified technicians then install them and train the people who will use them. Because fixed ladders take daily wear, our Annual Maintenance Check also checks the ladder structure, rungs, cage hoops and straps, mounting brackets, rest platforms and entry and exit sections, and tightens loose connections. Request a site assessment to plan safe access for your roofs.

System types

Configured for your structure

01

Aluminium cage ladder

Fixed aluminium ladder with cage hoops and vertical straps, for roof and platform access on industrial and commercial buildings.

02

Cage ladder with vertical lifeline

A cage ladder combined with a TsaF rope- or rail-type vertical lifeline, so the climber has continuous fall arrest during ascent and descent.

03

Cage ladder with rest platforms

For taller routes, we add rest platforms and access points where the climb requires them.

04

Cage ladder with protected exit

Entry and exit sections at the landing, which also combine with a rooftop barricade and walkway on the roof.

How it works

Engineered component by component

  1. Route surveyFirst, TsaF measures the climb, the structure, the landing and the clearances around the ladder.
  2. Mounting bracketsNext, we design ladder-to-structure brackets for the wall, tank or frame the ladder fixes to.
  3. Ladder and rungsThen our technicians assemble the aluminium ladder structure and rungs on site for the full height of the climb.
  4. Protective cageWe also fit cage hoops and vertical straps around the climbing space and connect them securely.
  5. Rest platforms and exitsWhere the route requires them, we add rest platforms and entry and exit sections.
  6. Fall arrestFinally, a vertical lifeline can keep the climber connected for the full height.

Benefits

Why sites choose this system

Controlled access

Safe, controlled vertical access to rooftops, platforms and elevated work areas.

Protective cage

The ladder and cage configuration therefore enhances user safety during ascent and descent.

Lightweight aluminium

Aluminium construction keeps the load on the structure low and also resists corrosion.

Lifeline-ready

Works with TsaF rope- and rail-type vertical lifelines for continuous fall arrest.

Engineered per route

We design the height, brackets, platforms and exits for each ladder.

Supported for life

TsaF also inspects it every year under the Annual Maintenance Check.

Applications

Where it is used

  • Roof access on factories and warehouses
  • Access to plant platforms and elevated work areas

FAQs

Questions about the Aluminium Cage Ladder System

Does a cage ladder stop a fall?

A cage encloses the climbing space and enhances user safety during ascent and descent. However, it is not a fall-arrest system on its own. For continuous protection, TsaF therefore recommends adding a rope- or rail-type vertical lifeline.

What does the Aluminium Cage Ladder System include?

A typical system includes the aluminium ladder structure and rungs, cage hoops and vertical straps, and mounting brackets. In addition, it can include rest platforms, access points and entry and exit sections. We design the exact configuration for each route after a site survey.

Where are specifications and dimensions for the cage ladder?

Climb height, structure, landing arrangements and fixings vary from site to site. Therefore, we confirm dimensions and specifications for each project rather than publish a standard size. After the survey, our team shares the drawings and documentation for your ladder.

What is the difference between the cage ladder and the Flowlok ladder?

Both are TsaF fixed ladder systems for vertical access. The Aluminium Cage Ladder System encloses the climber with cage hoops and straps. The Flowlok ladder, however, is TsaF's own ladder system, with details on request. TsaF recommends the right option after assessing the climb.

Which standards apply to the aluminium cage ladder?

TsaF engineering is still confirming the standards for the Aluminium Cage Ladder System, so we do not list them here. However, our team can share the documentation for your proposed configuration.

How often should a cage ladder be inspected?

TsaF recommends a formal inspection at least once a year under the Annual Maintenance Check, which also tightens loose structural connections. In addition, users should report damaged rungs or loose brackets immediately.
